Many Android smartphone owners might be wondering when or if their devices will receive the Android Marshmallow update. Google’s Android updates are not known for their speediness when it comes to reaching devices and the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow version is yet another example. If you have still not seen the OS update hit your device, here are just a few reasons why:
1. Your phone is outdated thus won’t be upgraded
This is a fact that most owners don’t want to hear but unfortunately, if the handset you are using is too old then chances of the Marshmallow update reaching it are pretty slim. In most cases, once a phone reaches its second year after it being launched on the market then it may as well be outdated or obsolete. This is because only a few devices that have moved past this timeframe get support from major Android updates. For devices launched in 2013 or before with the exception of Nexus 5, it is unlikely that they will receive Marshmallow.
2. Your phone is old enough not be a priority
Generally, manufacturers first roll out major Android updates to their latest flagship devices before they can consider their older devices. Even though your phone isn’t that old, it might not be considered a be considered a major device in the manufacturer’s update schedule, and could be why you are yet to see the update. However, for such devices, they receive the upgrade soon after the update has hit their more expensive counterparts.
3. Your carrier hasn’t yet rolled it out
Maybe you’ve noticed that a few of your family members or even friends with the same phone as yours, have already received the Android update, and you are yet to see the update notification. This issue is quite common and is mostly related to your phone carrier.
A variety of carriers roll out firmware updates at varying times. Due to the fact that manufacturers employ different software packages, you may find that a carrier like Verizon has updated a particular device earlier than the Sprint carrier. This all part of Android thus you should be patient.
4. The update is yet to reach your country
Updates roll out to different regions different times. This for example, is why the Poland region is usually the first to receive the latest Android update versions with other territories like the US receiving it thereafter.

5. The update is available but your phone has not received the notification
A few users haven’t updated their devices to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, mainly because they have not yet manually confirmed the update. In some scenarios, the notification on the availability of the new software or a prompt to update comes way later after the software download was made available. This means you can still download and do the update process manually.
Navigate to your Settings >> About phone >> Software update, then select the options tab and tap Refresh or Check now. A message will appear if the update is available for download.
